India's blind women cricketers still await promised house sites and jobs
India's blind women cricketers are still waiting for house sites and government jobs almost a year after winning the first Women's T20 World Cup for the Blind. Deepika T.C., who captained the side, said officials made tall promises but have shown little interest in delivering support.
The players cannot move around government offices because of their partial vision and cannot afford training in bigger cities. Most of the 16-member squad come from poor rural homes and are aged between 16 and 28. The Cricket Association for the Blind in India needs funds for coaching, fitness, food and travel.
Hindustan Shipyard Limited provided Rs 50,000 to each player under its corporate social responsibility programme at an event in Vizianagaram on Sunday. The team will play a series against Nepal in New Delhi in December.
