India seek settled fifth bowler before Asian Games

Iyer needs a reliable fifth option after the all-rounders leaked runs in Delhi.

India must resolve their fifth-bowling option before the Asian Games after Shivam Dube and Nitish Kumar Reddy conceded 59 runs in four overs during the seven-wicket win over Afghanistan. Captain Shreyas Iyer used Abhishek Sharma as the fifth bowler in the series opener.

Arshdeep Singh took three wickets and Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy returned from injury with economical spells. India face Afghanistan in the series finale on Thursday before travelling to Japan.

The fifth-bowler question will determine selections for the multi-nation tournament that begins next week.
