Arshdeep Singh takes four wickets as India win rain-shortened Auckland ODI
Arshdeep Singh took four wickets as India chased a revised target of 143 to win by five wickets. Gavaskar and Rahane backed his Test credentials.
Arshdeep Singh took four for 70 in ten overs as India beat New Zealand by five wickets in the rain-shortened first ODI at Eden Park. He became the third Indian pace bowler after Srinath and Shami to take four wickets in an ODI in New Zealand. Blair Tickner hit three sixes off Arshdeep in the final over, conceding 23 runs.
Gurnoor Brar finished with three for 44 from 9.2 overs. Ajay Jadeja said Arshdeep was slightly greedy trying for a fifth wicket in the last over. Sunil Gavaskar said Arshdeep should be considered for Test cricket because of his swing, while Ajinkya Rahane said his left-arm angle and footmarks would help spinners in Tests.
Arshdeep has played 104 T20Is and 19 ODIs but no Tests. Mohammed Siraj and Nitish Kumar were not selected for the match.
