Rahmat Shah century leads Afghanistan to 4-0 ODI series sweep of Ireland
Afghanistan's series win over Ireland confirmed their direct qualification while West Indies face the Qualifier route.
Afghanistan secured automatic qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup after beating Ireland by three wickets in the third ODI in Belfast. The win gave Afghanistan an unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match series and confirmed their fourth consecutive appearance at the global tournament.
West Indies, currently ranked 10th in the ICC ODI Rankings, will miss direct qualification and must go through the Qualifier. Even two consecutive wins in their upcoming series against India would not secure them an automatic berth before the September 30, 2026 cut-off.
The World Cup Qualifier will feature 10 teams, with the top four advancing to the 2027 World Cup. West Indies and Ireland will enter the Qualifier directly as the two lowest-ranked non-host Full Members.
