Jordan Cox set for unfamiliar No. 3 role against Abbas in Pakistan series
Essex opener faces unenviable task batting at No 3 against a new-ball master like Mohammad Abbas in Pakistan series.
Jordan Cox will bat at number three for England against Pakistan after limited prior exposure to the position at international level. The Essex opener faces the task against Pakistan's new-ball attack led by Mohammad Abbas.
Cox made his Test debut at number seven as a specialist batter when Ben Stokes was suspended against New Zealand at the Oval. He has had a handful of white-ball appearances and a Test debut that was taken away from him two years ago when he broke a thumb in the buildup.
England's decision places Cox in a position traditionally reserved for more experienced players against quality pace bowling on seaming pitches.
