Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 139 off 88 balls to help India chase 296 and beat the West Indies by eight wickets in the first ODI in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. The innings took him past 15,000 ODI runs, making him only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to reach the milestone.
Kohli hit 10 fours and nine sixes, his highest six tally in an ODI innings. Shubman Gill also scored 110 as the openers added 74 before Rohit Sharma made 32. Kohli reached his fifty in 40 balls and completed his hundred in 74.
West Indies posted 295 for 7 after Justin Greaves scored 101 and Amir Jangoo made an unbeaten 58. Kuldeep Yadav took 4 for 40. India lead the three-match series 1-0. The second and third ODIs are in Guwahati and Chandigarh.
