Kasi Viswanathan says Dhoni still active with CSK
The franchise is waiting for Dhoni’s decision when he arrives in Chennai and has not ruled out another season from the veteran wicketkeeper-batter.
Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan said on Tuesday that MS Dhoni remains an active player on the franchise’s books and that the 45-year-old will decide whether he returns for IPL 2027. Dhoni missed the entire 2026 season after sustaining an injury and has yet to confirm his availability.
Viswanathan told local media that Dhoni usually communicates his plans when he visits Chennai and that he personally feels the former captain may continue. Former teammate Suresh Raina has already urged Dhoni to extend his career by one more year.
CSK finished eighth in 2026 and will begin the next season under a new coaching staff after Stephen Fleming’s departure.
