Lungi Ngidi ruled out of Australia ODI series with hamstring injury

Ngidi becomes the third senior pacer ruled out of the Australia ODIs after Rabada and Baartman.

South Africa fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against Australia with a right hamstring injury. Scans confirmed the damage after Ngidi experienced discomfort during a domestic first-class match for the Titans against the Dolphins last week. The 29-year-old joins Kagiso Rabada and Ottneil Baartman on the injury list, leaving Marco Jansen and Corbin Bosch as the lead pacers for the series that begins on 24 September in Durban.

Twenty-year-old Nqobani Mokoena has been added to the 16-player squad as Ngidi's replacement. Mokoena made his ODI debut earlier this year against Zimbabwe and has been withdrawn from a domestic match to join the Proteas. The decision on Ngidi's availability for the subsequent three-Test series beginning on 9 October will be made closer to the start of that campaign.

South Africa's updated squad includes Temba Bavuma as captain, with Quinton de Kock, Aiden Markram, David Miller, and Tristan Stubbs among the batters. The three ODIs will be played in Durban, Johannesburg, and Potchefstroom.
