Mark Wood retires from international cricket
England fast bowler Mark Wood announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday. The 36-year-old cited persistent knee problems that ruled out further Test and ODI cricket. Wood made his debut across all formats in 2015 and finishes with 253 wickets in 146 matches.
Wood played a key role in England's 2019 ODI World Cup victory, taking 18 wickets, and claimed nine wickets during the 2022 T20 World Cup success. His final Test came in the first Ashes match in Perth last November. He finished with 119 Test wickets from 38 matches, 80 ODI wickets from 70 matches, and 54 T20I wickets from 38 matches.
England managing director Rob Key paid tribute to Wood's contribution in major series and tournaments. Wood said playing for England had been the greatest honour of his career.
