Matthew Wade announces retirement from all cricket

Matthew Wade retires from all cricket after 36 Tests and 97 ODIs for Australia.

Matthew Wade announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Thursday, ending a career that included 36 Tests, 97 ODIs and 92 T20Is for Australia. The 38-year-old last played international cricket two years ago and continued in the Big Bash League for Hobart Hurricanes and List-A cricket for Tasmania.

Wade's defining moment came in the 2021 T20 World Cup semi-final when he hit three consecutive sixes off Shaheen Shah Afridi to eliminate Pakistan. He represented Victoria and Melbourne Renegades before switching to Tasmania.

Cricket Tasmania general manager Salliann Beams praised Wade's leadership and influence on younger players. Hurricanes coach Jeff Vaughan highlighted his ability to change games quickly and pass on experience to teammates.
