Mohammad Kaif demands transparency over Mohammed Shami omission
Kaif said selectors owe Shami clarity given his domestic form and past contributions, and questioned why short spells should bar him when Bumrah bowls similarly.
Former India batter Mohammad Kaif called for greater transparency from selectors after Mohammed Shami was left out of India's squads for the New Zealand tour. He said Shami's domestic returns and his role in the 2023 ODI World Cup merit an explanation.
Kaif noted that Shami took 22-23 wickets in Indian conditions this season and questioned why short spells in domestic matches should rule him out when Jasprit Bumrah bowls similar spells. Shami last played for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy.
India named separate squads for two Tests, five ODIs and five T20Is. Shami was subsequently rested from Bengal's second Ranji Trophy match after the squad announcement.
