Mohsin Naqvi wanted to hand over trophy despite BCCI warning
Mohsin Naqvi was informed before Sunday's Women's Asia Cup final that India would not accept the trophy from him.
ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi was keen to hand over the Women's Asia Cup trophy to the Indian team himself despite being informed of the BCCI's decision in advance. The BCCI had told ACC officials before Sunday's final that India would not accept the trophy from Naqvi.
Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan's Interior Minister, led the presentation party after India beat Sri Lanka by 72 runs in Dubai. Head coach Amol Muzumdar confirmed the BCCI had taken a formal position on the handover.
Sri Lanka players collected their medals and cheques while India remained in the dressing room. The episode mirrored last year's men's Asia Cup final at the same venue.
