Morne Morkel says Nitish Kumar Reddy can compete for all-rounder spot
India bowling coach Morne Morkel said Nitish Kumar Reddy possesses the talent to compete for the all-rounder role if given consistent opportunities and a clear brief. Reddy has shown sharper pace and late movement in training ahead of the West Indies ODI series after taking six wickets in the recent T20I series against Afghanistan.
Morkel said the message to Reddy is to keep things simple and fulfil basic roles rather than trying to create opportunities in every spell. He noted that Reddy's mindset of wanting to create breakthroughs is valuable but needs to be channelled into consistent execution. Morkel added that India has time to develop Reddy as a potential replacement for the injury-prone Hardik Pandya.
Morkel also said the management is monitoring workloads for Hardik Pandya and Harshit Rana, who remain sidelined, and that India has strong bench strength to cover injuries.
