Morne Morkel advises India bowlers to practise with strong fans for Wellington winds
Morne Morkel says India bowlers need to experience strong wind resistance during training to prepare for Wellington conditions.
India bowling coach Morne Morkel has advised players to prepare for Wellington's strong winds by standing in front of a powerful fan at home. Morkel said the wind at the Basin Reserve ground and Hnry Stadium can affect bowlers' balance and release, making yorkers and slower deliveries harder to execute.
The coach acknowledged that adapting to the conditions over multiple days would be challenging for a touring side. He emphasised that one bowler must accept the responsibility of operating into the wind rather than having all four bowlers operating with the wind at their backs.
India have already practised with wet balls to prepare for dew conditions during the series. Morkel said the team would use their limited preparation time to understand how the wind affects their game before trusting their skills in match situations.
