MS Dhoni stake talks with CSK collapse over equity split
Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni failed to agree on equity terms for a potential stake sale, with the former India captain seeking up to 25 percent ownership.
Talks between MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings over a potential ownership stake have broken down, according to multiple reports. Dhoni sought between 20 and 25 percent equity in the franchise, while management offered a baseline of 5.5 percent.
Aakash Chopra called the reports of a 25 percent demand unrealistic and suggested they were planted. Dhoni remains under contract as a player with the franchise and continues to serve as an inspirational figure within the squad at age 45.
The franchise must now clarify Dhoni's future role before appointing a replacement for Stephen Fleming, whose 18-year tenure as head coach ended after the 2026 season.
