Mumbai Indians approach Rohit Sharma to captain IPL 2027 side
Hardik Pandya is open to a trade but will play under Sharma if required.
Mumbai Indians have approached Rohit Sharma to captain the franchise in IPL 2027. Sharma initially suggested Tilak Varma for the role but agreed to take the captaincy after the franchise requested him.
Mumbai Indians reached the playoffs only once in the last three seasons under Hardik Pandya. The franchise has appointed Kieron Pollard as head coach, replacing Mahela Jayawardene, with Robin Uthappa, Mitchell McClenaghan, T Dilip and Dhawal Kulkarni joining the coaching staff.
Hardik Pandya could be traded before IPL 2027 but has agreed to play under Sharma if a deal does not materialise. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma were considered for the captaincy before Sharma agreed to return.
