Mumbai Indians to interview Hussey, Finch, Birrell, Boucher, Morgan for head coach role

Mumbai Indians plan to meet five ex-players before they pick the next head coach for the 2027 IPL. The names, according to NDTV, are Michael Hussey, Aaron Finch, Adrian Birrell, Mark Boucher and Eoin Morgan, and talks are set to begin in the next few days. MI and Mahela Jayawardene ended their contract by mutual consent on Saturday, October 17, after the side finished ninth in the 2026 season. During his first spell with the franchise from 2017 to 2022 the Sri Lankan guided the team to three titles. Hussey spent nine years as batting coach at Chennai Super Kings before he was let go after Zaheer Khan took charge. Finch lifted the T20 World Cup as Australia captain and has played for nine IPL sides, yet he has never coached at first-team level. Birrell has led men’s and women’s sides across many countries and won three SA20 titles with Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Boucher had the MI job in 2023 and 2024 but was replaced by Jayawardene after the team ended tenth.
