Najmul Hossain Shanto ruled out of Asian Games with fever

Bangladesh lost Najmul Hossain Shanto to illness ahead of their Asian Games quarterfinal against Malaysia.

Bangladesh batter Najmul Hossain Shanto was ruled out of the Asian Games after falling ill with fever since arriving in Nagoya for the men's cricket competition. He is returning home on the earliest available flight.

The Bangladesh Olympic Association confirmed the decision after assessment by the contingent doctor and BCB physiotherapist. Shanto had missed practice matches before the trip due to an abrasion.

Bangladesh will face Malaysia in their quarterfinal on Tuesday. If the match is washed out due to rain, Bangladesh will advance to the semifinals without playing.
