Naman Dhir reveals emotions after maiden India call-up

Naman Dhir describes disbelief at maiden India call-up; Punjab all-rounder endured seven-year gap before senior breakthrough.

Naman Dhir has described the moment he learned of his maiden India call-up for the ODI series against West Indies. The Punjab all-rounder said he initially dismissed a congratulatory message on Instagram as spam. When he opened the official BCCI post, Dhir said he could not process the news for 10 minutes. He called his father immediately. Dhir endured a seven-year gap between representing Punjab at U-16 level and breaking into the senior side. He scored 655 runs at a strike rate of 217.61 in the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League, including a 173 off 64 balls. Dhir received his cap from captain Shubman Gill before the first ODI in Thiruvananthapuram.
