Naman Dhir says he nearly quit cricket for Canada career

Naman Dhir opened up about nearly quitting cricket to move to Canada before his father convinced him to persist. The all-rounder has now become a key finisher for India in T20Is.

Naman Dhir revealed he nearly abandoned cricket to move to Canada where his sister was studying after facing repeated setbacks in his career. The 26-year-old from Faridkot in Punjab said friends and relatives taunted him for wasting his life on the cricket field before his father convinced him to give the game one more season.

Dhir's breakthrough came in 2022 when Punjab selected him for the Ranji Trophy and Mumbai Indians signed him the following year. He lost his grandfather and childhood coach Gagan Sidhu during this period but maintained his focus on making the most of limited opportunities.

The all-rounder has now established himself in India's T20I side with match-winning contributions in the ongoing series against New Zealand. His ability to attack from the outset has made him a valuable finisher in the middle order.
