Pollard ditches Joburg Super Kings to focus on Mumbai Indians role
Pollard pulled out of SA20 2027 with Joburg Super Kings a day after taking the Mumbai Indians head-coaching job, prioritising his new IPL role over a separate franchise commitment.
Kieron Pollard informed Joburg Super Kings of his unavailability for the SA20 2027 season one day after being appointed Mumbai Indians head coach for IPL 2027. The Trinidadian all-rounder was bought by the Johannesburg franchise for R1.5 million at the SA20 auction on October 7 but has now withdrawn.
Joburg Super Kings are owned by the Chennai Super Kings group while Mumbai Indians' owners operate MI Cape Town in the same competition. CSK chief executive Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the withdrawal and said the franchise will now seek a replacement. An MI source told Cricbuzz the franchise had given Pollard no instructions on the matter.
Pollard had previously represented MI Cape Town in SA20. His decision allows him to concentrate on his first head-coaching assignment with Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2027 season, which begins with retentions in mid-November and the mini-auction in Goa on December 16.
