Pujara says T20 consistency is overrated for top-order batters

Cheteshwar Pujara defends Sanju Samson by arguing that consistency is overrated for T20 top-order batters and warns both Samson and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi cannot play together in New Zealand.

Cheteshwar Pujara says consistency among top-order batters in T20 cricket is overrated because one good innings can restore form. He backed Sanju Samson after the wicketkeeper-batter scored 168 runs, including two half-centuries, in the five-match series against West Indies.

Pujara argued that fluctuations are natural in the format and that Samson is never truly out of form. He noted that a single innings can turn criticism around.

Pujara also said Samson and 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi cannot both feature in India's playing XI during the upcoming T20I series in New Zealand because conditions will require more all-rounders. The series begins on October 22 in Christchurch.
