India reach Asian Games semis after rain washes out Afghanistan quarter-final

India advance to Asian Games semi-finals without playing after rain washes out quarter-final against Afghanistan; Sri Lanka awaits in Thursday's last-four clash.

India advanced to the Asian Games semi-finals after rain washed out their quarter-final against Afghanistan in Nisshin on Monday. No ball was bowled, and the match was abandoned 16 minutes before the scheduled toss. India progressed on the basis of their higher ICC T20I ranking.

Pakistan also reached the last four after their quarter-final against Hong Kong was abandoned. All four men's quarter-finals at the Asian Games were washed out due to rain. Sri Lanka advanced after their match against Nepal was called off, and Bangladesh progressed past Malaysia.

India will face Sri Lanka in one semi-final on Thursday, while Pakistan meets Bangladesh in the other. Shreyas Iyer leads the Indian squad, with VVS Laxman as stand-in coach. The team is defending the gold medal won in Hangzhou in 2023.
