Rajat Patidar credits Kohli backing for RCB captaincy
Patidar said Kohli's endorsement mattered more than any other factor during his appointment.
Rajat Patidar said Virat Kohli's public support gave him confidence when Royal Challengers Bengaluru handed him the captaincy. The 30-year-old credited the endorsement from his idol during the transition after RCB's IPL title win. Kohli remains with Mumbai Indians for the current IPL season.
Patidar stated that support from Kohli outweighed every other factor in his rise to leadership. The endorsement came at a time when the franchise was rebuilding its leadership structure following their championship success.
RCB have not confirmed whether Patidar will continue as captain next year. The franchise is yet to announce its leadership plans for 2027 after the current season concludes.
