Renshaw and Cummins lead Australia fightback on day one against South Africa

Renshaw and Cummins added an unbroken 63 to lift Australia to 187 for six on day one in Durban.

Matt Renshaw and Pat Cummins led Australia's recovery on the first day of the opening Test against South Africa in Durban, taking the tourists to 187 for six before bad light ended play. South Africa's pace attack had reduced Australia to 124 for six after Travis Head, Nic Maddinson, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Alex Carey and Beau Webster were dismissed.

Renshaw was unbeaten on 46 and Cummins on 33 as the pair added an unbroken 63 for the seventh wicket. Wiaan Mulder took two for 31 and Marco Jansen two for 35.

Australia chose to bat first on a pitch offering early assistance to the quicks. Bad light halted proceedings with 15 overs remaining in the day.
