India beat Japan by eight wickets in Asian Games quarter-final

Shree Charani's 4 for 10 and Shafali Verma's unbeaten 40 help India dismiss Japan for 57 and win by eight wickets.

India Women began their Asian Games title defence with an eight-wicket victory over Japan at the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin on Friday.

Shree Charani took 4 for 10 and Shafali Verma claimed 2 for 13 as Japan were bowled out for 57 in 19.5 overs. Ayaka Kato-Stafford top-scored for Japan with 25.

Shafali Verma then scored an unbeaten 40 from 15 balls to complete the chase in five overs, with Richa Ghosh finishing on 12 not out. India will face Bangladesh in the semi-final on September 20.
