Rohit Sharma becomes fastest opener to reach 10,000 ODI runs
Rohit fell five runs short of a century but claimed the record during India's innings at Mullanpur.
Rohit Sharma became the fastest batter to reach 10,000 runs as an opener in ODIs during the third match against West Indies at Mullanpur on Saturday. The milestone came in his 202nd innings, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's previous record of 226 innings.
India won the toss and batted first in the series finale. Rohit fell for 96 after adding 74 for the first wicket with Ruturaj Gaikwad, who made 57. Shubman Gill was dismissed for one and Virat Kohli for a golden duck in the same over from Jayden Seales.
Rohit also became the first player to hit 100 sixes in international cricket against West Indies. India have already secured the series after winning the first two ODIs, including a record chase of 406 in Guwahati.
