Rohit Sharma credits Dilip Vengsarkar for India selection opportunity

Rohit Sharma expressed gratitude to Dilip Vengsarkar for selecting him for India's national team in 2007.

Rohit Sharma said he will be grateful to Dilip Vengsarkar for the rest of his life for giving him the opportunity to play for India. The former India captain made his ODI debut against Ireland in Belfast in June 2007 at the age of 20. Vengsarkar was chairman of the selection committee when Rohit earned his maiden call-up.

Rohit acknowledged that several people played a role in his journey to the national team. He also credited Vasu Paranjape, who supported him during age-group cricket and advocated for him with selectors and the team captain. Paranjape passed away in August 2021 at the age of 82.

Rohit reflected on his early career during an appearance on Sony TV's Family Full House. He noted that he continues to seek feedback from coaches who shaped his development, often reaching out through their family members even after their passing.
