Mumbai Indians plan to name Rohit Sharma captain for IPL 2027. The franchise approached him before his New Zealand ODI trip, and he agreed after initially suggesting Tilak Varma for the role.

Hardik Pandya replaced Rohit Sharma as captain three years ago. Mumbai Indians qualified for the playoffs only once during his tenure, and the franchise is open to trading him. If no trade happens, Hardik Pandya has agreed to play under Rohit Sharma.

Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Tilak Varma were also considered for the captaincy. Kieron Pollard was named head coach on October 30, with Robin Uthappa, Mitchell McClenaghan, T Dilip and Dhawal Kulkarni completing the new coaching staff.
