Sahabzada Farhan named Pakistan's eighth T20I captain in three years
Sahabzada Farhan replaced Salman Ali Agha as Pakistan's T20I captain ahead of home series against Sri Lanka and an ODI tri-series with England. The Pakistan Cricket Board announced the change on Monday after Farhan led the side at the Asian Games. The appointment marks Pakistan's eighth T20I captain since Babar Azam stepped down in November 2023.
Head coach Mike Hesson said the board recalled eight senior players including Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah for the coming fixtures. The selectors made six changes to the T20I squad and five to the ODI squad from their previous groups. Farhan, who captained the Asian Games side, now leads a unit built around experienced players.
Pakistan named separate squads for each format. The T20I group includes Farhan as captain, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan and Abrar Ahmed. The ODI squad is led by Shaheen Shah Afridi and contains Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman and Naseem Shah. Both squads will face Sri Lanka and England in the coming weeks.
