Saikia says India-Japan T20I marks step beyond traditional boundaries

Saikia described the proposed India-Japan T20I as an expansion move for cricket.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah's advisor Saikia said the India-Japan T20I represents a significant step for cricket beyond traditional boundaries. The match forms part of efforts to expand the game's reach in Asia. Japan has been developing its cricket infrastructure with support from the Asian Cricket Council.

The fixture comes after Japan hosted matches in the ACC Women's T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Indian players have conducted coaching clinics in Japan as part of development programs. The BCCI has identified Japan as a potential growth market for the sport.

No date has been confirmed for the T20I, though both boards have expressed willingness to schedule the fixture. The match would mark India's first bilateral series against Japan at senior level.
