Samson says World Cup success gave him confidence to stay grounded
Sanju Samson credited his World Cup success for giving him confidence while Aakash Chopra questioned his continued exclusion from the ODI squad.
Sanju Samson said the confidence gained from winning the T20 World Cup Player of the Tournament award has helped him understand his game better and stay grounded. Speaking during the rain delay in the fifth T20I against West Indies, he said he now focuses on his process and reduces outside noise. Samson added that he wants to continue playing fearless cricket regardless of results.
Former India batter Aakash Chopra questioned Samson's continued omission from the ODI squad despite strong numbers in the format. Chopra noted that Samson has scored 510 runs in 14 ODI innings at an average of 56.67, yet other wicketkeeper-batters were also overlooked for the New Zealand series. He said the selectors appear to have made up their minds about Samson's ODI future.
Chopra compared Samson's recent T20I numbers with Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma and found that Samson scored the most runs among the three in their last 20 innings. India will play five T20Is in New Zealand starting on 22 October.
