Samson scores 82 in Ranchi to answer questions over his place

Samson answers critics with 82 as Sooryavanshi waits on the bench.

Sanju Samson scored 82 off 41 balls in the second T20I against West Indies in Ranchi on Friday, ending a run of four low scores. He equalled Virat Kohli's record for the fastest fifty by an Indian against the Caribbean side.

Samson was dropped twice early in his innings but capitalised on the reprieves. He shared a 97-run stand with Ishan Kishan as India posted 249 for 5.

The performance came in MS Dhoni's hometown and with 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi waiting in the squad. Samson had earlier said that low scores in T20 cricket should not be treated as a prolonged failure.
