Scott Boland removes Aiden Markram and David Bedingham in consecutive deliveries

Scott Boland took two wickets in consecutive deliveries before rain ended day one of the second Test at Gqeberha.

Scott Boland dismissed Aiden Markram and David Bedingham in successive balls during the second over of Australia's innings on the first day of the second Test against South Africa at St George's Park, Gqeberha, on October 18, 2026. Markram scored 11 runs from 28 deliveries before a delivery that nipped back sharply took the inside edge and flattened middle stump. Boland then removed Bedingham with the next ball to place himself on a hat-trick, leaving South Africa at 20 for 2.

The two wickets came in Boland's second over after Australia opted for an all-seam attack and dropped off-spinner Nathan Lyon. Australia selected the 37-year-old to exploit conditions at St George's Park and weather forecasts that pointed to significant interruptions. South Africa made three changes, including Test debutant Marques Ackerman at the top of the order.

Rain returned during the afternoon session and play was abandoned at 4:15pm, leaving the match with only a handful of overs completed. Ackerman remained unbeaten on 5 when the weather intervened. Pat Cummins said Boland's selection was justified by the early impact before the weather closed in.
