Shafali Verma breaks record for most T20I runs in a calendar year

Shafali Verma surpassed Laura Wolvaardt to set a new record for most T20I runs in a calendar year. The opener reached the mark during India's Asian Games campaign in Japan.

Verma scored an unbeaten 100 off 49 balls against Bangladesh in the semi-final, her maiden T20I century. She also became the first woman to score a century at the Asian Games.

The 22-year-old now leads the T20I run-scoring charts for 2026 with 825 runs from 24 matches, including one century and seven fifties.
