Shafali Verma reprimanded for breaching ICC code of conduct

Shafali Verma received an official reprimand and one demerit point for throwing the ball to the ground after dropping a catch during India's nine-wicket win over Zimbabwe in Raipur.

Shafali Verma has been reprimanded by the ICC for breaching Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct in the second T20I against Zimbabwe in Raipur. The 22-year-old threw the ball down after dropping Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano at mid-off off Sree Charani's bowling in the 12th over. One demerit point was added to her record, her first offence in 24 months.

Verma admitted the offence and accepted the sanction from match referee G.S. Lakshmi, so no formal hearing was needed. On-field umpires Vrinda Rathi and Gayathri Venugopalan, third umpire Anna Harris, and fourth umpire Janani Narayanan reported the incident. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum of 50 per cent of a player's match fee.

Verma scored 4 and 55 in the two matches so far. India lead the series 2-0 under new captain Smriti Mandhana, with the final match on Tuesday.
