Shami says Sooryavanshi is as old as his career

Mohammed Shami said the 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is literally as old as his own cricket career while sharing the East Zone dressing room during the Duleep Trophy final.

Shami took two wickets in the final, including key breakthroughs, and praised the teenager's talent and composure. The veteran pacer has continued to perform in domestic cricket despite not featuring for India since the 2025 Champions Trophy.

Shami said he enjoyed mentoring young players like Sooryavanshi and emphasised that self-motivation remains essential regardless of selection outcomes.
