Shubman Gill says he is not part of India T20I plans
Gill told reporters he is not in the T20I team when asked about India's Asian Games gold medal and the upcoming West Indies series.
India ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill was caught off-guard when reporters asked him about the T20I team's Asian Games gold medal win and preparations for the West Indies series. Gill replied that he is not part of the T20I setup. He said he would now take a break after returning from New Chandigarh.
Gill has not been part of the T20I plans since late 2025. The BCCI decided to manage his workload and avoid burdening him with a third format, as he already captains India in Tests and ODIs and is focused on the buildup for the 2027 World Cup in Africa.
Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi remain India's T20I opening options. Gill will likely feature in some domestic matches soon, likely in the Ranji Trophy for Punjab.
