Shubman Gill says Ravindra Jadeja was rested, not dropped, ahead of World Cup planning
Gill confirmed Jadeja remains in selection calculations but emphasised giving others opportunities before the World Cup cycle.
India captain Shubman Gill said Ravindra Jadeja was rested rather than dropped for the third ODI against West Indies in Mullanpur. Jadeja had taken two wickets in the second match in Guwahati after a long spell without an ODI scalp, but Anshul Kamboj replaced him in the playing XI.
Gill said the short series offered an opportunity to give bench players game time and that the team would meet selectors to discuss squad composition for the 2027 World Cup. He added that decisions would be based on which players can contribute most in the conditions expected in South Africa.
Jadeja is not in the Asian Games squad, and Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are also unavailable. Gill said the side expects the young pacers to improve after their first international outings.
