Smriti Mandhana appointed India captain across formats
Mandhana takes over from Harmanpreet Kaur as India women's captain across all formats, with Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma named vice-captains for T20Is and ODIs respectively.
Smriti Mandhana was appointed captain of the Indian women's cricket team on Tuesday after Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down from the role across all formats. The BCCI made the announcement following a review meeting in Guwahati that assessed recent team performances, including India's exit from the T20 World Cup before the semifinals.
Mandhana has been part of the Indian side since 2013 and previously led India in 18 T20Is and four ODIs. She led Royal Challengers Bengaluru to Women's Premier League titles in 2024 and 2026. Shafali Verma was named vice-captain for T20Is, while Deepti Sharma will serve as vice-captain in ODIs.
India's next assignment is a series against Zimbabwe starting October 16, with the first T20I in Raipur. The Women's Champions Trophy follows at home in February.
