Smriti Mandhana hails Harmanpreet Kaur's decade of leadership

Smriti Mandhana pays tribute to Harmanpreet Kaur's leadership as the former captain steps down after a decade in charge.

Smriti Mandhana hailed Harmanpreet Kaur's decade-long captaincy, saying the pair will continue striving together for more laurels for India in a new era. Harmanpreet Kaur stepped down as captain of the Indian women's cricket team across all formats on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old led India in five Tests, 51 ODIs and 155 T20Is. Her crowning achievement came last year when India won their maiden Women's World Cup title under her captaincy. BCCI has yet to name the next full-time leader, but Mandhana stands as a strong possibility to take over the reins.

Mandhana's captaincy era will begin with a historic Zimbabwe tour as India name its T20I and ODI squads. The 30-year-old is the most experienced player in the side after Harmanpreet and has also led RCB to two WPL titles.
