Sunil Gavaskar backs Bumrah selection for Asian Games

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar supported the selection of Jasprit Bumrah for the Asian Games in Japan later this month. Gavaskar said the tournament would give Bumrah valuable match practice ahead of India's two-Test series in New Zealand.

India have not won a Test series in New Zealand since 2010. Washington Sundar has been confirmed fit for the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan, while a fitness report on Bumrah is expected by September 9.

Gavaskar noted that limited-overs exposure would help Bumrah regain rhythm after injury lay-offs.
