Sunil Gavaskar compares Temba Bavuma's captaincy record to Ajinkya Rahane's

Sunil Gavaskar sees a clear parallel between Temba Bavuma's captaincy and Ajinkya Rahane's time with India. Bavuma has won 12 of his 14 Tests in charge and led South Africa to the 2025 World Test Championship title.

Gavaskar made the point in his Mid-Day column after Bavuma's career-best 179 helped South Africa win their latest Test. He noted that both captains have delivered without courting attention or running any public relations push. Bavuma, he added, reminds him of Gundappa Viswanath — strong without the need to look it.

Rahane won eight of his 11 Tests as India captain and lost just one.
