Suryakumar Yadav left out of Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad

Suryakumar's absence from pre-season camp and lack of recent red-ball experience led to his exclusion from Mumbai's 16-member squad.

Mumbai selectors omitted Suryakumar Yadav from the Ranji Trophy squad for the opening match against Chandigarh despite his availability. The former India T20I captain had not attended the team's pre-season training camp that began at the end of June.

Chief selector Rajesh Pawar said Suryakumar had not played red-ball cricket in the last 18 months and that selecting him would have required dropping a younger player. Mumbai Cricket Association sources indicated Suryakumar was non-responsive for 10 days when first approached about the squad.

Siddhesh Lad will captain Mumbai, with Ayush Mhatre named vice-captain. The MCA said it would consider Suryakumar for white-ball captaincy if Shreyas Iyer is unavailable.
