Suryakumar Yadav omitted from Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad after skipping pre-season camp
Suryakumar's absence from pre-season training and lack of recent red-ball experience led to his exclusion from the Ranji squad.
Suryakumar Yadav has been left out of Mumbai's 16-member Ranji Trophy squad for the opening match against Chandigarh. Chief selector Rajesh Pawar said the former India captain had not played red-ball cricket for 18 months and had skipped the pre-season training camp.
The Mumbai Cricket Association confirmed Suryakumar was non-responsive when approached for squad selection 10 days ago. The selectors wanted to give youngsters a chance and noted that picking Suryakumar would have meant dropping Musheer Khan.
The MCA said it would still consider Suryakumar for white-ball captaincy if Shreyas Iyer is unavailable. Mumbai's squad is led by Siddhesh Lad and includes Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan.
