Suryakumar Yadav says selectors told him it was time to move on

Suryakumar Yadav said the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel told him it was time to move on before removing him as T20I captain. He was stripped of the captaincy and omitted from the squad entirely, with Shreyas Iyer taking over the leadership role after India won the T20 World Cup. Yadav expressed surprise that the change came when everything was going well for the team.

Yadav said he was completely shocked by the decision and kept thinking how it was possible. He admitted that he takes responsibility for not putting in the effort required to succeed in the 50-over format and felt disappointed with himself. The batter revealed he contemplated retirement after losing his India spot but his wife helped him rediscover his passion for the game.

Yadav said he did not question the decision to hand the T20I captaincy to Shreyas Iyer and remains available for selection whenever the committee needs him. He accepted the selectors' prerogative to make changes after the World Cup victory.
