Temba Bavuma becomes oldest WTC captain to score century against Australia
Temba Bavuma scored 103 not out to become the oldest captain to score a century against Australia in a World Test Championship match. The 36-year-old surpassed Rohit Sharma's previous record set at the age of 35 years and 285 days during India's 2023 series. Bavuma reached the milestone at 36 years and 154 days during the second Test at Gqeberha.
Bavuma added 132 runs for the seventh wicket with Marco Jansen after South Africa lost early wickets on day three. The partnership lifted the hosts from 110 for six to 242 for seven and kept them in the contest. Bavuma also became the third-oldest captain overall to score a century in WTC cricket.
Rohit Sharma holds the overall record as the oldest WTC captain to score a hundred, making 103 against England at Dharamsala in March 2024 at the age of 36 years and 312 days. Steve Smith is second on that list with 138 against England at Sydney in January 2026.
