'This is not cricket, this is only batting' — Gambhir after India's record ODI chase

Gautam Gambhir said the flat pitch in Guwahati that produced 811 runs was not cricket but only batting.

India coach Gautam Gambhir criticised the flat pitch in Guwahati after India chased 406 to beat West Indies by eight wickets in the second ODI on Wednesday. He told broadcasters the surface offered little contest between bat and ball.

Gambhir said record chases are good for crowds and broadcasters but leave young bowlers without meaningful work. He added it wasn't fair for bowlers to operate on surfaces that offered no assistance.

The third ODI at New Chandigarh on Saturday is the final match of the series. India have already secured an unassailable 2-0 lead.
