Umesh Yadav returns to first-class cricket with Punjab after Achilles injury
The veteran seamer took seven wickets in his first match for Punjab after an 18-month injury layoff.
Umesh Yadav has made a successful return to first-class cricket with Punjab after recovering from an Achilles tendon injury that kept him out for nearly a year. The 38-year-old took seven wickets in his first match for the state against Assam.
Yadav was the first guest player signed by the Punjab Cricket Association ahead of the 2026-27 domestic season. He said his wife Tanya played a crucial role in encouraging him during rehabilitation when he questioned whether he should continue playing.
Punjab head coach Uniyal said Yadav's experience will help the team's bowling attack and provide guidance to emerging fast bowlers. Yadav is preparing for Punjab's home match against Chhattisgarh on Sunday at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.
