UP Warriorz sign Sophie Molineux for Rs 1.1 crore after bidding war with RCB

UP Warriorz signed Australian all-rounder Sophie Molineux for Rs 1.1 crore at the WPL 2027 auction after a bidding battle with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Kochi on Wednesday. The 27-year-old captained Australia to the T20 World Cup title earlier this year and recovered from a hip injury that caused her to miss WPL 2026. Delhi Capitals secured Kiran Navgire for Rs 75 lakh in an earlier bidding war.

Molineux led the bidding from Rs 50 lakh, with RCB staying in the hunt until UP Warriorz secured her for Rs 1.1 crore. She brings experience across all three formats to a UP Warriorz side that has the largest remaining purse and the most slots to fill with eight vacancies including three overseas places.

Twenty-seven slots remain across the five franchises. UP Warriorz now have seven overseas players on their roster after signing Molineux. Teams are limited to a maximum of six overseas players in each squad.
